Osun screens 4,126 Residents for Hypertension

The Osun State Government, under Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration, has been actively promoting health awareness and providing free medical screenings to residents. Here are some key initiatives:

- *Hypertension Screening*: The state government provided free hypertension screening to over 4,126 residents, including market women, in commemoration of World Hypertension Day. The screening exercise was conducted at Sasa and Oke-Baale markets in Osogbo.

- *Project 10 Million*: The Osun State Government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Governors' Forum and the World Health Organization, launched "Project 10 Million," a national health campaign aimed at screening 10 million Nigerians for hypertension and diabetes. The campaign, which ran from October 28 to November 3, 2024, targeted blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, and height measurements.

- *Awareness Campaign*: The government has also launched a comprehensive awareness campaign to educate residents on hypertension prevention and the importance of regular blood pressure screenings for early detection and effective management. Development partners, including the World Health Organization and The Challenge Initiative, have pledged their support for the initiative.

- *Health Education*: The Osun State Commissioner for Health, Jola Akinola, emphasized the need for sustained awareness campaigns and community outreach, especially in underserved and remote areas, where many residents remain unaware of their health status. The commissioner urged residents to adopt healthier lifestyles and be proactive about their health to avoid preventable complications.

These initiatives demonstrate the Osun State Government's commitment to improving the health and well-being of its residents.
